Insulation Resistance Tester — 500V
Your multimeter tests continuity. That is not the same question as whether the insulation on a rewound motor will hold off mains voltage. Before you plug anything back in, you want to know the answer to the second question. That is what this does.

What it's for
Rewound motors, rewound transformers, repaired appliances, vintage equipment coming back into service. Apply 500 V DC across the winding and ground, read the resistance. A healthy winding reads hundreds of megohms or better. A winding with compromised insulation tells you before the breaker does.
The auto-discharge circuit bleeds the stored charge off the winding after each test — you don't have to remember to do it, and you don't get bit by a capacitively charged coil when you pull the leads.
Honest note
Hobbyist grade, not lab calibrated. If you're doing certification work or writing test records for a regulated environment, you need a different category of instrument. For making sure your rewound bench grinder won't bite you when you flip the switch, this is the right tool at the right price.
